In Marsa Alam, your hotel will be the starting point for the tour to Dendera temple, accompanied by an Egyptologist guide. This guide will provide a detailed explanation of the temple’s history. The construction of the Temple of Hathor took place primarily during the Late Ptolemaic period, under the rule of Ptolemy XII and Cleopatra VII. Although the builders were not native Egyptians, the temple’s design closely resembles that of other traditional Egyptian temples, except for the front of the hypostyle hall. An impressive relief carving of Cleopatra VII and her son with Julius Caesar, Ptolemy XV (also known as Caesarion), can be found on one of the temple walls. In the carving, both rulers are depicted wearing Egyptian attire and making offerings. Additionally, Hathor was widely worshipped as a healing goddess, and sacred water from the temple was used for bathing purposes.
After Lunch head to Abydos Temple. The Temple of Abydos holds significant importance as an archaeological site in Ancient Egypt. Situated in Upper Egypt, approximately 10 km away from the Nile River, it originally served as a burial ground for the earliest kings of Egypt. Over time, it transformed into a revered place of worship for the god Osiris and hosted celebrations honoring the deified kings of ancient Egypt. In later times, the tombs started to be regarded as highly important burials. As a result, it became desirable for people to be buried in that area, causing the town’s significance as a cult site to increase.
Currently, Abydos is famous for the commemorative temple dedicated to Seti I, in which there is an inscription called the Abydos King List from the nineteenth dynasty, renowned worldwide.
